Dear President-Elects, Executives, Other Officers and Spouses,
San Diego Rotary Club 33 is looking forward to welcoming you to the 2011 Large Club Conference, February 9-11, 2011. We are ready to share our city with you and exchange ideas to keep our clubs vibrant, meaningful and stimulating to our members.
San Diego Rotary was founded in 1911 and is the third largest Rotary Club in the world with 533 members. Our Club is comprised of leaders from government, business, education and the military. We have 56 committees and are actively involved in San Diego and Baja California, Mexico.
The venue for the 2011 Large Club Conference is the beautiful new Hilton Bayfront Hotel located right on San Diego Bay. The Hilton offers excellent meeting facilities and beautiful guest rooms. Within convenient walking distance of the Hilton are numerous great restaurants, the aircraft carrier museum Midway, harbor excursion boats, the Maritime Museum, the San Diego commercial fishing fleet and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres, is just across the street.
President Bonnie Schwartz, Executive Director Bruce Hunt, the entire Large Club Conference Committee and I have a productive, stimulating and interesting Large Club Conference planned. We kick off with a cocktail reception and dinner at the Hilton Wednesday evening, February 9th. Thursday and Friday days will be spent in meetings with excellent presenters and interactive sessions with ample free time for responding to emails and returning calls. Our Club’s weekly Thursday luncheon will take place at the Hilton at noon on the 10th. Our luncheon speaker will be Bill Gates, Sr. Mr. Gates is Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. As you probably know, the Gates Foundation has donated $355 million to Rotary’s Polio Plus Campaign. On Thursday evening, the Lord Hornblower will pick us up at the Hilton for a dinner cruise around San Diego Bay. We conclude Friday evening with a cocktail reception and dinner in the Padres Hall of Fame Bar & Grill at PETCO Park. Saturday morning there will be a meeting of the Executive Directors from 9:00 to noon.
A preliminary agenda and instructions for conference registration are enclosed to help you plan your travel schedule. We also have a Large Club Conference website to help with additional details. That address is www.rotarylargeclub.org We look forward to hosting you in San Diego for what I know will be a rewarding and enjoyable Conference.
